On the Issues
Too often the politicians campaign as conservatives and spend like liberals. I will go to Austin to restrict the growth of government in order to unleash the power of freedom. Here is where I stand on the issues of the day:
Controlling Taxes and Spending
Government should not grow faster than our wages. I will fight for stronger limits on the growth of state spending, greater controls on property taxes and property appraisals, and conservative budgets that invest in core priorities like education. Government that attempts too much accomplishes too little.
Protecting Life
All human life is sacred, from the moment of conception until one’s final breath on earth. While the federal courts have made abortion legal, I will support restrictions, promote adoption, and stand strong for a culture that promotes and nurtures life.
Securing our Border
Though hundreds of miles away from Mexico, our community feels the effects of the federal failure to secure our border in the form of illegal drugs and crime on our streets. I will support more manpower on the border, and the use of technology to detect, track and capture those who illegally smuggle drugs and people into our country. Washington should spend more time securing the border and less time trying to control our everyday lives.
Creating Jobs
Our area has been hit hard by plant closures and layoffs. I worked all my adult life for the local power company, Swepco and AEP-Texas, and I know the way to create prosperity is to invest in jobs. I will advocate for tax incentives to bring manufacturing plants to Northeast Texas, and greater job training investments in communities with higher unemployment. While government views jobs as a source of tax revenue, I view jobs as a source of income and dignity for area families.
